Only been two years running the Pertronix, maybe I should put something here, huh? The matchbox distributors work fine, however I really like the simplicity and reliability of the Pertronix Ignitor unit.
Start with a new '69 small body single point distributor for a '69 510. The Pertronix units are only available for Datsun single point distributors. Dual points won't work, though you might be able to alter the Pertronix plate to accept it.

I got this from Schmucks before I started working at NAPA. Unfortunately, that might be where you find yours as I have problems on very old distributor availability. Hopefully that will change in time. Motion Auto Supply also has 69 single point units available. At right is the Pertronix kit you need. Number 1741. Fits all 4 cylinder Datsuns. I get these from Bert Shields in the valley. While they're basically useless for looking up parts, I find if you bring part numbers with you they can get quite a lot of things, generally only a day out.

Here's what it looks like: Simple, no?

Unscrew the points and take out, then drop the Pertronix in. Comes with screws to attach ignitor unit. Make sure you reattach the ground wire to one of those screws. I like to take a very tiny zip-tie and hold that wire out of the way, also. Don't have too, just a little nicer. See the condenser and blade terminal? Remove that and the white plastic insulator. The pertronix wires and grommet fit in that spot.

That's it. Slide the magnetic pickup over the shaft, align the four flats first before jamming it on! Note the wires will be held in place by the cap. As long as they don't contact the rotor, you'll be fine. I also use a very small zip-tie to carefully route these wires to ensure they don't get snagged by the rotor.
Install in L-series and enjoy!
